STRANGE CAMS2011 - ONGOING
Strange Cams is an ongoing research project exploring the affordances of defamiliarized, modified, low-technology instruments. Using a roll of duct tape, a can of spray paint, and a handful of CVS-brand disposable cameras, the project explores the extent to which commodified technologies mediate perspectives throughout surrounding environments and participation therein.
How might the adaptation of a standard technological tool allow for the embedding of choice within its corresponding media format? How might a flexible format capture negotiations between existing relationships as they emerge: participant-self, participant-participant, and between participant(s)-space? What role do "strange" designed objects have in facilitating dialogue within a community setting?
